A lawyer and chartered accountant by training, Umesh Arora chose the CA path not for prestige, but for what it represents: controls, cash discipline, governance, and truth in numbers.
After building a successful corporate career at Sona Steering, he transitioned into entrepreneurship, founding ventures in real estate, wellness, and Ayurvedic healthcare. Dedicated to creating meaningful employment, Umesh aims to generate 100,000 jobs, making livelihoods central to his journey.

Interviewer: Umesh Arora, thank you so much for joining us today. To start, could you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Umesh Arora: Thank you for having me. I come from Gurugram, and professionally, I am both a lawyer and a chartered accountant. My choice of the CA path wasn’t about the title; it was about discipline, governance, and the ability to understand the truth in numbers. I joined Sona Steering after qualifying and quickly rose to the role of Finance Manager by applying financial rigor to solve operational problems. While my corporate career was promising, I realized I wanted to create something of my own, something that could have a broader social impact, including generating meaningful employment.
Interviewer: That’s impressive. You transitioned from a rising corporate career to starting your own ventures. What motivated that shift?
Umesh Arora: After several years in corporate, I felt the urge to do more than just advance personally. I wanted to create opportunities and improve communities through my work. In 2013, I founded my first real estate company. By 2017, I expanded into wellness with Ganpati Arcade and US SOBO Wellness, launching Ayurvedic treatment centres and spas. The goal was not just business growth but offering dignified care, calm spaces, and quality services to local communities. Later, in 2022, I added Vaidyaacharya to support the centres as a clinical and manufacturing backbone, ensuring consistent quality and supply.

Interviewer: Your focus on creating employment is inspiring. Can you tell us more about that goal?
Umesh Arora: Absolutely. I am deeply committed to creating meaningful jobs, with a long-term goal of generating 100,000 employment opportunities. For me, entrepreneurship isn’t just about profits; it’s about building livelihoods, empowering people, and contributing to society. Every business decision I make considers how it can positively impact employees, communities, and the larger ecosystem. That focus drives both the vision and the daily operations of my ventures.

Umesh Arora: The early days were challenging, especially in securing funding and building a reliable team. Transitioning from a structured corporate environment to running a business required learning every aspect of operations, finance, and people management. Initially, I had to juggle multiple roles while ensuring that our ventures maintained high standards of service and discipline. These challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of combining professional rigor with empathy and social responsibility.
Interviewer: Speaking of professional rigor, how has your CA and legal background influenced your entrepreneurial journey?
Umesh Arora: It’s been crucial. The CA training taught me discipline, financial control, and governance, which are essential when running multiple businesses. Legal knowledge helps in navigating contracts, regulatory frameworks, and compliance. Together, these skills allow me to approach problems systematically and make decisions based on facts and data. It’s about balancing operational efficiency with vision, and that balance has been fundamental to scaling our ventures responsibly.

Umesh Arora: We focus on structured processes, monitoring, and continuous learning. In wellness and Ayurveda, quality cannot be compromised, so Vaidyaacharya was critical as a supply and standards hub. For real estate and wellness spaces, attention to detail in design and service ensures that customers feel valued. Innovation comes from observing needs, listening to feedback, and applying disciplined experimentation. Every step is guided by a blend of professional rigor and a commitment to social impact.
Interviewer: What advice would you give to someone just starting as an entrepreneur?
Umesh Arora: First, know your purpose and why you are starting your venture. Be disciplined in your approach, learn continuously, and build a strong, trustworthy team. Solve real problems and maintain ethical standards in every decision. Understand that challenges will come, but with persistence, a focus on impact, and adaptability, you can turn them into opportunities. Also, always remember that creating value for people, whether customers or employees, will sustain your business in the long run.

Umesh Arora: The most fulfilling part is seeing an idea transform into a sustainable venture that creates real impact. Knowing that our businesses provide employment, health solutions, and dignified care to communities gives me immense satisfaction. Beyond profits, it’s about leaving a meaningful mark and empowering others to grow alongside your journey. That sense of purpose has been far more rewarding than any individual achievement.
